Purpose of the guideline: Burn patients are at high risks of DVT because burn patients usually had all the three factors of thrombosis which included endothelial damage, hypercoagulability, and blood stasis according to the Virchow’s triad. In fact, diagnosis of DVTs may be missed in many clinical cases, which was partly supported by the higher incidence of DVT in two prospective studies (6.08% and 23.3%) than nine retrospective studies (0.25%-5.92%).Although DVT is preventable, the prophylaxis of DVT did not raise adequate attentions in burn care and the prophylactic strategy varied greatly among burn centers. Even, most of burn centers did not perform regular prophylaxis of DVT. Therefore, we proposed the international expert consensus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of DVTs in burns based on the thorough analysis of published studies and adequate discussion of expert panels from multidiscipline and countries/regions. Our aim is to strengthen, improve and guide the prevention and treatment of DVTs for burn populations in clinical practices.
