Title: DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH EPILEPSY: AN EVIDENCE-BASED CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE ADAPTATION FOR THE ALEXANDRIA UNIVERSITY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Edition: Updated
Classification: Standard guideline
Field: Diagnosis and Treatment
Countries and regions: Egypt
Guidelines users: Pediatricians, neurology, epileptologists, radiologists, pharmacists, nurses, and technicians
Evidence classification method: This CPG review and update initiative began with the formation of a Guideline Review Group (GRG). The GRG held focus group talks and resolved to check for any published revisions of the previously selected high-quality and EB-CPGs by the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, Healthcare Improvement Scotland (SIGN-HIS). The excellent quality of the SIGN-HIS source CPG was determined by a previous quality assessment of CPGs performed as part of the 'Adapted ADAPTE' process using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE) II Instrument, which is the gold standard for CPG quality assessment. For reporting of revised CPGs, the GRG used the Checklist for the Reporting of Updated Guidelines (CheckUp), a CPG tool advocated by the Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research (EQUATOR) Network. Furthermore, with the agreement of the authors, the GRG decided to use items from the ongoing research study to construct an extension of the RIGHT statement for the reporting of "adapted CPGs" (RIGHT-Ad@pt Checklist) to report the components of our CPG. The group revised eight major categories of recommendations from a single source, CPG, as a result of their work (SIGN). The following suggestions were made: I Epilepsy diagnosis, (ii) Recognition, identification, and referral, (iii) Pharmacological treatment, (iv) non-pharmacological treatment, (v) Managing drug-resistant epilepsy, (vi) Support, (vii) Medication (viii) Maintenance and monitoring (ix) comorbidities and mortality (x) children and caregiver education and support (xi)transitional care.
