Purpose of the guideline: The treatment of depression with proprietary Chinese medicines has the advantages of early onset of action, evident efficacy, and few side effects. For subthreshold depression and mild depression, some proprietary Chinese medicines can replace western medicine treatment. In the west of medical treatment program, the combination of proprietary Chinese medicine with western medicine treatment can improve the antidepressant efficacy and reduce the side effects of western medicine, which plays a role in increasing the effectiveness and toxicity. Currently, there is no international clinical guideline for the treatment of depression with proprietary Chinese medicine. The clinical standard of treatment is not uniform, which leads to irregular clinical behavior in the treatment of depression with proprietary Chinese medicine, which affects the effectiveness of the treatment of depression with proprietary Chinese medicine and the summary of clinical experience, and cannot fully reflect its advantages, and hinders the international exchange of the treatment of depression with proprietary Chinese medicine. Concerning the international diagnostic criteria and treatment norms for depression, combined with the current research results and successful experiences of TCM in preventing and treating depression, and drawing on the research methods of modern medical clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine, the clinical application guidelines of TCM for depression with evidence-based medicine are formulated. The aim is to guide clinicians and nursing staff to standardize TCM protocols, enhance the therapeutic management of depression, improve patients' mental and physical health, social interaction, occupational ability, and physical activity, and improve the overall quality of life. The aim is to improve the general level of diagnosis and treatment of depression using proprietary Chinese medicine globally and reduce the economic burden of depression on families and the social harm caused by depression.
